A few notes about some of the people on this cd.

Teresa Teng (Teng is pronounced deng) is probably the most famous Taiwanese singer. She was loved in Taiwan, China, and Japan. When she died in the 80s the taxi drivers here called it a holiday. At her gravesite there is a memorial that plays her songs 24 hours a day. Some say that the only reason China didn't attack Taiwan in those early days was because they were afraid they'd kill Teresa. Her songs are featured in the HK film "comrades - almost a love story". Her song here "tube rose" can also be found on my lao kou kou comp, but that version is in Taiwanese(and not sung by Teresa) whereas this is a version sung in Chinese. After she recorded this, it was pretty much considered the definitive version. Recently they discovered a song recorded before her death and it will be released for the first time sometime this summer. Grace Chang Ge Lan was one of the most popular Chinese singers from the 50s-60s. Apparently she was one of the first Chinese singers to release records in the states, and she even appeared on the Dinah Shore show. The Chinese title for her song here is "wo yao ni de ai"("I want your love") but since it is a cover I gave it the original English title since it is listed in the cd booklet. The other singers I know very little about, but they all were very famous in China. There are a few covers here, anyone knowing what they are please let me know. Some I know but can't remember what the song is called. Translations of song titles and names are approximate.
