Scottish Pop  performed by Spearmint  2001

Any song which namechecks Bobby Gillespie and Stuart Murdoch is all right with me. A beautiful, sweet pop song with the choice lyric "when I'm with you it's like Scottish Pop". Gorgeous.

from A Different Lifetime, available on CD (hitBACK)

All The Great Writers and Me  performed by Tompaulin  2001
Recommended by LawrenceM [profile]

A great, gritty pop song with some really fantastic lyrics.
"You think that you know tragedy? William Shakespeare's got fuck all on me".
A lazy comparison would be to Belle & Sebastian, but Tompaulin are really worthy of being taken on their won terms. The whole album is just brilliant.

from The Town and The City, available on CD

Slipping Through Your Fingertips  performed by The Saturday People  2001
Recommended by LawrenceM [profile]

A brilliant pop song which reminds me in equal parts of the 60s pop of The Zombies or The Lovin' Spoonful, and also of 80s indie like New Zealand's Sneaky Feelings and Scotland's Orange Juice.

from The Saturday People, available on CD
