Stand By Me  performed by Sonny & Cher  1967
Composed by Ben E. King & Elmo Glick

A refreshing twist to this familiar Ben E. King hit. The song marches on to a simple bass line, military style drums and light percussion, slowly progressing with the addition of violin and tambourine. It may be more simplistic, but I prefer this version over the original.

Talk Show Host  performed by Radiohead  1996

Super-dark-sexy...This song is an honest portrayal of the paradoxes involved with desire; happy/sad, pleasure/pain, love/hate...etc. I find it terribly gloomy yet wonderfully uplifting at the same time. Just beautiful.

available on CD - Street Spirit (Fade Out) EP

Golden Hours  performed by Brian Eno  1975

Brian Eno on guitar, percussion, organs and piano and John Cale on viola. When you put geniuses like these two together, something brilliant is bound to happen. In this case, it's this song. This one gets me every time.

from Another Green World

28 Feb 02 ·G400 Custom: Talking of Eno and Cale, 'Wrong Way Up', the LP they released together in 1990, is intermittently excellent. Both of them indulge their poppier side, particularly on 'Lay My Love'.
