This Moment  performed by Incredible String Band  1970
Recommended by Aquatown [profile]

As any other hippie leaning lad would, I dabbled in the sound of The Incredible String Band in the late 60s. However, I don't remember anything sounding quite this good. "Charming" would be the key word here as the voices intertwine with big a dollop of moaning added for extra atmosphere. "This moment... is different... from any before it".

from I Looked Up (Elektra EKS 7401)
available on CD - The Hannibal Sampler (Rykodisc)

Teenage Kicks  performed by The Undertones  1979

Early punk from Irland . The vocals sounds as much sixties as they sound punk-ish , a nasal enthusiastic whine that is just bound to put u in a good mood . It also sounds very naive and its full of energy , usually that can be quite irritating (newer bands like The Offspring comes to mind ) but this is just impossible to not like.

18 Aug 03 ·chris kane: wow. impossible not to like. that's just made me think, i've never met anyone who doesn't love that song!
13 Jul 04 ·mattypenny: A great song, rightly highly rated. But does anybody else prefer the follow-up, '(I just can't) Get over you'?
04 Feb 05 ·shakeahand: John Peel said it was like being on a roller coaster... and I know what he means. This pure energy, pure pop, simply marvelous.
Tugboat  performed by Galaxie 500  1988

Guess u can call this a love-song , it manages to be pretty sad and still come through as pretty light-hearted. It doesnt take many hearings before its a classic in your ears. The instrumentalisation (is that even a word lol) is pretty simple ,and yet so very effective.

from Today, available on CD (Rykodisc)

Peaches En Regalia  performed by Frank Zappa  1969
Recommended by G400 Custom [profile]

A short instrumental featuring dozens of musicians playing sumptuous melodies, this perfect fusion of rock and 'classical' forms might just be the most authentically radical record I own.

from Hot Rats, available on CD (Rykodisc)

Man In A Shed  performed by Nick Drake  1969
Recommended by Pal [profile]

Itīs about ten years ago I heard Nick Drake for the first time, and I understood that the sixties were more than just Beatles and the Stones. Nick Drake has truly done an huge impact on me.

from Five Leaves Left, available on CD (Rykodisc)
