Try To See It My Way  performed by Little Peggy March  1966
Recommended by bobbyspacetroup [profile]

A great (neglected?) Bacharach & David song. There are three other versions by Rick Nelson & Joannie Sommers from the "On The Flipside" ABC TV special soundtrack. Though i like how it plays as a duet between Nelson and Sommers, Peggy March's vocals are ultimately the strongest. Hence, this is my favorite version. Hey, does anybody know of any other recordings of this song?

21 Jun 02 ·scrubbles: You're right, I love this little gem. Peggy March's voice is sexy, strong and way beyond her earlier girl groupy stuff. The arrangement is plush and understated, very "Bacharach". Thanks for writing about this.
Tempura  performed by Di Maggio  2002

I don't know much about the French duo Di Maggio, but this is a great track. I guess this sounds a lot like that other French duo, Air, but with a more pronounced Morricone influence. Very nice regardless...

from Easy Paris (Wagram Music 3075522), available on CD (Wagram Music (France))

13 Jul 02 ·delicado: Great sound; is the whole album this good?
Anna's Garden  performed by Louis Philippe  1993

I don't like all of Louis' stuff. Some of it I can't stand. His cover of "Witchi Tai To" from this album really makes me gag. Sorry. But Louis has made more than a handful of wondrous, timeless pop songs. This one captures Louis at his most Beach Boys-influenced. It doesnt sound JUST LIKE the Beach Boys, but, yeah, the influence is there. A stunning track.

available on CD - Sunshine/Delta Kiss (Cherry Red (UK))

27 Nov 02 ·bobbyspacetroup: Just for the record, I'm starting to come to terms with "Witchi Tai To."
Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead  performed by Sammy Davis Jr. & Buddy Rich  1966
Recommended by bobbyspacetroup [profile]

I'm not going to say much about this track aside from it being one of my favorite Sammy Davis, Jr. performances. This really shouldn't work, but it does. Chalk it up to the genius of Sammy.

from The Sounds Of '66 (Reprise RS 6214)

28 Nov 02 ·n-jeff: But isn't Sammy Davis Jnr just like that? Silk purses out of sows ears, I treasure his performance of 'If I could talk to the animals'. It should stink, but it doesn't. Its a real treasure.
18 Jan 03 ·konsu: He also managed to spin gold from "Mr. Bojangles" without too much effort... A dying breed indeed.
20 Apr 04 ·olli: even though his vocal version of the hawaii 5-0 theme (you can count on me) is unbelievably corny, i absolutely love it. a party favourite. i even made an animated ninja movie about it.
The Thief Who Came To Dinner  performed by Henry Mancini  1974
Recommended by bobbyspacetroup [profile]

A great track hiding out on a later Mancini LP. Soulful brass, funky bass, and theremin-like sounds coming out of the Arp Sythesizer -- the Arp programmed here by Chris Mancini (Hank's son?).

from Hangin' Out With Mancini (RCA CLP1-0672)

13 Mar 03 ·JoNZ: Yes, Chris Mancini is the son of (sw)Hank. I believe he has some lp's of his own out but they are weak in comparison to Poppa Mancini.
